Creative Practice - 'Inter hominem et equum'

I am currently working on my second year creative practice brief.
During the next few months I will be looking at 'Inter hominem et equum' which means the relationship between man and horse, one of the oldest relationships between man and beast, of all living creatures this relationship is one of the closest and most versatile. Without man and horse working alongside each other for centuries' the evolution of man would have been much slower. Man's dependence of horses was paramount and one of the major building blocks as we know society today.
As part of my brief I will be investigating how man and horse has helped to sculpture the land and the importance horse has had in changing landscapes.

Turner and Christopher le Brun will be my main inspiration for this brief. To do my research I am photographing my own horses and equine events. Using a range of mediums I will capture the spirit and energy of the horse, whilst expressing their emotions.

Reflections in Time

My art practice is influenced by being part of a family where Welsh culture, although highly respected, is also subtle and underestimated. This strong Celtic influence lies deep within my subconscious having been brought up in such a culture based environment. Surrounded by heirlooms, antiques, language and customs, my art determinedly takes an in depth look into what I have taken for granted, analysing varying perspectives and reviewing the contrast of modern Wales versus the traditional perception. My work delves into living and personal spaces, assessing influences and the impact of Welsh cultures. I question the objects that surround me determining their meaning - are they a consequence of having to maintain a tradition and so become an obsession? By examining these objects and interpreting them into drawings and paintings that are expressive, I endeavor to capture the light, movement and atmosphere, so that the onlooker becomes enveloped in my work, becoming lost in a moment in time where they question their own living space and its impact on their own emotions and memories. I hope that the consequence of this encounter with their subconscious is both pleasurable and memorable.

Private View Swansea

The Elysium gallery in Swansea will be open tonight at 7-9pm for the private view of our exhibition 'Moments in Time'. This Show Presents reactions to the past, present and moments that evoke responses to individual experiences in time.
